As extreme weather events become the new normal, our ability accurately to observe, forecast and measure environmental conditions is becoming increasingly crucial to safeguarding human life and property.
“Vaisala enables observations for a better world. “Our solutions deliver accurate measurement data to our customers, offering them the means better to understand their environment and optimise processes, for a greener tomorrow,” says Vaisala’s Head of Production Technology, Tomi Pietari.
Vaisala has more than 80 years’ experience in developing, manufacturing and marketing innovative products and services for environmental and industrial measurement, designed to ensure operational quality and productivity. It has two main business areas: Weather and Environment, which serves weather-dependent markets in which accurate, real-time, uninterrupted, and reliable weather data is essential to run efficient operations, and Industrial Measurements, which targets customers in life science, power transmission, and targeted industrial applications, for example.
“We work with corporate customers operating in highly regulated environments such as bioprocessing, pharmaceutical manufacturing and storage monitoring applications, as well as the food manufacturing and semiconductor industries,” says Pietari.
“We also seek to help nations better understand their vulnerabilities and risks and become more resilient to climate change through state-of-the-art environmental observations and forecasting,” he continues, adding that what most, if not all, Vaisala customers have in common is that they demand extreme accuracy and state-of-the-art performance from their products.
Linde has been supplying industrial gases, including pure and mixed gases as well as liquid nitrogen, to Vaisala for almost a decade. It also supplies accessories including gas cylinders and surrounding installation equipment and hardware. The gases are used in Vaisala’s sensor manufacturing processes in its in-house clean room. Linde’s gases are also used in the measurement validation process, and for the calibration of new products, both in manufacturing and lifecycle services.
“We operate in a business in which traceability and quality standards are extremely important,” continues Pietari, adding that the key accreditation in this context is ISO 17025, which enables laboratories to demonstrate that they operate competently and generate valid results, promoting confidence in their work on a global basis.
By working with an internationally recognised company like Linde, which has all the necessary certificates and accreditations for the products and services it supplies, Vaisala can rest easy, safe in the knowledge that it is fulfilling its quality assurance to its customers.
Linde’s capabilities within product certification cover the full range from products made according to internal procedures governed in Linde’s ISO 9001 certification, products with certificates of conformity, or certificates of analysis according to relevant ISO standards. The high-end products are the ISO 17025-accredited gases. The entire procedure for production and analysis is checked and approved by Sweden’s national accreditation agency – SWEDAC.
The ISO 17025 product is used for trusted validation of test results that shall be compared globally, for example, thus ensuring that test results from one part of the world meet the same highly reliable level as similar test results from another part of the world.
“Over the years, Linde has supported us with a variety of quality products and services and a high level of expertise. It has also been flexible in responding to demand fluctuations when they have arisen. Most importantly, it has lived up to our strict demands on quality and delivery accuracy, which, in turn, allows us to fulfil our quality promise to our customers,” concludes Pietari.
