Safe handling and transportation of acetylene

Acetylene gas cylinders need to be handled, stored and transported correctly to be completely safe, just like any other gas cylinders.

Safety instructions for acetylene

The benefits of acetylene for welding and cutting are well-known. Due to its excellent heat properties, it cuts much more efficiently than other gases, with productivity 33% better than propane gas.

Less well-known is the fact that acetylene, due to its high flammability, can pose a serious safety risk. Acetylene gas cylinders need to be handled, stored and transported correctly to be completely safe.

When handled and transported correctly, acetylene is a safe gas. Always follow the following safety instructions for acetylene:

    Safety instructions for acetylene:
  • ● Ensure the acetylene cylinder's shut-off valve is closed prior to transport and storage.
  • ● Never rely on gas devices such as gas torches or regulators to turn off the gas flow. Always shut off the gas inlet from the acetylene cylinder.
  • ● Transport gas cylinders in a vehicle that has adequate ventilation - preferably in a truck or open truck, or in the cargo space of a closed truck with ventilation.
  • ● Ensure the gas cylinders are securely fastened and that the valves are protected during transportation.
  • ● Unload acetylene cylinders immediately upon arrival at the destination. If cylinders have been stored horizontally, let them stand vertically for at least 30 minutes before use.
  • ● Never store acetylene cylinders overnight in a vehicle without ventilation.
  • ● Follow all local regulations concerning the transportation of acetylene cylinders in vehicles and the safe unloading and storage of acetylene cylinders.
